Rocket Academy

During the last weekend in April, Verdugo Hill Council held it’s annual Cub Scout Rocket Academy at Camp Verdugo Oaks. Spe-Le-Yai Lodge was honored to be asked to take an active role in this council activity. Our main responsibility was providing hot meals to all the participants and staff for the weekend. The number of people we fed varied throughout the weekend, but our high number was 400 for dinner on Saturday night. Our chef chiefs were Dellon S. and George Mohamed and they kept everything moving in the kitchen. The Order of the Arrow Ceremony Team under the leadership of Carol Olen conducted an Arrow of Light Ceremony at the campfire. There were also a number of individual arrowmen who were very active in this activity. Beverly Neudet was the person providing first aid, when needed, our own Joe “the Rocket Man” Davenport supervised the shooting of the rockets and David Potter was the Rocket Academy Chairman and was responsible for putting this activity together. We are proud to say that this years’ Rocket Academy was a wonderful event and the Order of the Arrow was well represented.
